Excellent suggestion. It's on my list. I had it down for next year but have moved it to later this year. I've scheduled myself for themes, and horror will take up the middle of this year. At the moment I'm into Iran and China.
'Raise the Red Lantern' is the biggest one of Yimou Zhang I haven't seen (I've seen 14, and 'Hero' may be my favourite Chinese movie). He got me into actress Zhou Dongyu, and her 'Soulmate' is one of my the great friendship dramas, and last year's 'Breaking Ice' was fab art cinema.
I've seen 'A Girl Walks Home Alone', and will rewatch in order for me to rank them all. Be interesting to see how my nostalgia compares to new viewing.
Another crim. underrated masterpiece of human condition, you might find eye-worthy -> https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e0/Last_life_in_the_universe.jpg

👌🏼Now, you've given me a year-worth of 📽️🎆treats HW! 🙌🏼
I also planned on going down that same nostalgic-noir road these days. Will get back to you for the before-after brainpicking. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
This has long been on my list!
That's what happens to long movies.
